When you go to the doctor for a health condition, one of the first things some doctors do is take out their prescription pad.
While medications have their place in our healthcare system, they’re not the be-all-end-all for most patients.
In fact, there are plenty of medication alternatives our patients have found to be more helpful than over-the-counter and prescription medications. Plus, the alternatives rarely have the side effects medications have.
If you couldn’t tell, we’re very enthusiastic about medication alternatives. We believe a lot of them treat the very root of the patient’s conditions, as opposed to just masking symptoms as many medications do.
There’s one form of alternative therapy we’re especially excited about: BrainCore Neurofeedback.
This form of therapy is becoming increasingly popular – and for good reason.
What Is Braincore Neurofeedback and How Is It Performed?
How would you like to treat a number of health concerns without drugs or invasive therapies?
Doesn’t this sound wonderful?
Well, this is what many people have experienced with neurofeedback. Just how is this procedure done?
According to Psychology Today, neurofeedback is considered within the medical community to be a subdivision of biofeedback.
Biofeedback and neurofeedback are methods used by doctors and clinicians to gain information about the body.
They place monitoring devices on the patient’s body to monitor activity via temperature, blood pressure, brain waves, and the patient’s heart rate.
Or, in the case of neurofeedback, they place a hat with electrodes which monitor brain activity.
These devices are hooked up to a computer which provides visual data based on how your body is responding to the biofeedback or neurofeedback.
What’s interesting is the doctor is monitoring your body’s involuntary processes, what we once thought we had no control over.
However, with the use of bio- and neurofeedback, we’re able to learn how to control some of these bodily processes, particularly how we respond to stress or disease.
Once you and your doctor or clinician has the information they need from the neurofeedback session, then you can use a variety of methods to learn how to react better or “fix” a certain issue you’re having.
A neurofeedback procedure is non-invasive and doesn’t hurt. In fact, most people don’t feel a thing.
The practitioner will use the electrodes to send pulses into the brain in what some people refer to as a brain reboot.
Will Braincore Neurofeedback Ever Be a Replacement for All Medications?
Neurofeedback is being used to help people who have:
- ADHD
- PTSD
- Migraines
- Autism
- Chronic headaches
- Insomnia
- Panic attacks
- Memory disorders
- Post-stroke patients
- Fibromyalgia
- Anxiety disorders
A lot of people with these conditions are on at least one medication to try and find relief.
Neurofeedback is proving to be effective in many cases.
However, this doesn’t mean every patient will respond to the treatment 100% of the time. Some patients use neurofeedback in addition to other treatments, therapies, and medications.
And of course, there are health conditions which can’t be treated with this sort of therapy, or others which haven’t been tested yet.
But researchers are continually setting up studies to find out what kinds of conditions might react positively to neurofeedback.
It is their hope they can add new conditions to the above list and more people will start getting relief from their debilitating symptoms.
If You’re in Pain, You Should Give Alternative Treatments a Try
Have you tried medication after medication for your pain, only to experience no change in your symptoms?
A lot of patients experience this sort of frustration, and our heart goes out to them.
Pain can quickly suck the joy out of life which is no way for any person to have to live.
This is why we’re so enthusiastic about medication alternatives like neurofeedback.
While they don’t work in every single situation, thousands of patients around the world have experienced at least some relief from their symptoms by implementing medication alternatives.
If you’re unsure of which alternative would be best for you, we welcome you to contact us for a consultation. We can come up with a treatment plan with a number of medication alternatives as options.
